Beach stones, sea glass, porcelain shards, tumbled stones and non calibrated cabochons and faceted stones are perfect for these settings. Stones do not need to have flat bottoms nor even height around the perimeter. How to design and layout the settings, placement of prongs, decorative aspects and setting of the stones will all be covered. There are several different types of settings that will be displayed and explained. Student are encouraged to bring to class any stones that have seemed to be difficult challenges. Prerequisite: Some basic knowledge of of jewelry / metal working and related terminology.

Students should bring: Unusual shaped gemstones if they have them. Some sheet metal 20- 16g, fine silver wire 18g - 14g round. Hand tools ( saw frame, files, ruler, etc.), paper, pencil, prong setter. IF students do not have stones or the necessary metal, they will be available from instructor during class.
