Master Class

This two day class will introduce students to the art of enameling, an ancient technique of fusing powdered glass to metal to create brilliant color. Enamel can be the focus of the work, set like a stone, or it can be used as a surface embellishment to enhance a cast or fabricated piece. The use of enamels allows artists to add color to a piece, to enhance stones or to create small works of art within a piece. Students will learn:

  • -About the properties of enamel and how it interacts with the properties of metal
  • -How to prep the metal surface for enamel
  • -The different options for laying enamel on the surface
  • -How to fire the enamel in a kiln The instructor will provide small copper and fine silver disks for students enamel.

Students can expect to leave class with at least one finished piece of enamel. More experienced students are welcome to join the class.
