$30 payable at time of registration. Students may purchase materials from the instructor as needed.









Master Class


This workshop focuses on strategies for making unique chains and linkages. From classical to funky, a wide range of chain styles will be demonstrated and explained. Students will make samples and experiment with a variety of fused, cold-connected, and soldered link chains.

Day One:
Breif history of classical chains, x/y axis, sawing vs.cutting, fusing links in argentium silver, soldering vs. fusion, big-bold and classical links

Day Two:
Rolling mill links, flattened and textured, balled wire connections, ball and socket, combining with gold, bi-metal, fusion with gold/argentium, tubing elements

Day Three:
Floating links, hairy chain, commercial components, combining with beads and pearls, complex construction Independent work and studio clean up

Morning demos will include tips, tricks and design discussion. Class will have time to work independantly each day to make samples or finished work. Paulette will have with her samples of over 50 chain styles to be inspired by!

Paulette Werger is a metalsmith and teacher who works in Lebanon, NH. She sells her work both nationally and internationally and is owner of Metalpeople East, a jewelry and hollow ware studio. She has taught metalsmithing at the University of WI, Montana State University, and at craft schools throughout the country. She serves as trustee for Society of Arts and Crafts and is a former board member of SNAG.
