Regular Workshop

This six week class is open to anyone who is interested in the basics of jewelry making and metalsmithing. Class will continue where Session 1 left off, though Session 1 is not required. Basic skills such as sawing, piercing and filing will be reviewed, as well as basic soldering techniques. Class will move on to cover more complex soldering techniques as well as stone setting and surface embellishment. The instructor will also cover how to plan and layout a design so that the making of the piece becomes much easier and more efficient.

Topics covered will include:

  • Basic tools needed for jewelry and metalsmithing work
  • Sawing, piercing and filing Sheet metal
  • Soldering - basic and more advanced techniques
  • Surface embellishment
  • Basic stone setting

  • Students will work with copper and brass. Those wishing to work with sterling silver may bring their own. More advanced students are welcome to join the class and work at their own pace on pieces of their own design.

NOTE: There will not be class on April 25. Class schedule can be adjusted to accommodate Spring Break if neccessary.
