Wax Carving for Casting with: Jennifer Rutheny

Learn the age old technique of lost wax casting. Wax is a medium that lends itself to creating jewelry with a sculptural feel. Students will use special jewelers wax along with both hand tools and the flex shaft to curve small objects in jewelry. The waxes, or miniature-sculptures, can then be cast into a variety of metals to create a finished product. The casting process will be discussed, along with information on where to have your wax cast into metal. On the second day, the instructor will demonstrate how to use a Flexshaft (or Dremel) as a tiny lathe for turned wax carving.
